We are in the height of championship action now and the club is very busy on all fronts with three teams in action almost weekly .
Seniors are 2 from 2 in their group but had to do it the hard way after being pushed all the way by a very good Round Towers side in Greenford on Saturday 16th , a great start with a goal from full back Caoimhin Carthy following a sweeping move put us 1-3 to 0-1 in front after only 7 minutes , after this though we seemed to lose our way and some wayward shooting and lack of composure with final ball gave the opposition the impetus and they duly took over going in at half time a point to the good , it could have been worse but for a last ditch block by Keith Curran to deny them a certain goal .Half time Round Towers 0-07 …..St Kiernan's 1-3
A stern talking to and a few changes saw a much better and economical second half and after going two down early in the half we started to find our range and scores from Chris , Sean and Tom saw us back in front by the 40th minute , Towers kept pegging us back and it was late in the game when we nudged two ahead again after superb scores from Kevin , Kenny , Oran and Chris , it was a tense last few minutes as Towers chased an equaliser but we were able to see the game out and now guarantee top spot in the group and a semi final place with a game to spare , again a really tough encounter which can only serve the team well .
Scorers -
Caoimhin 1-0 ….Chris 0-3 .......Tom 0-2......Kenny, Oran , Sean , Kevin H and Kevin Mc 0-1 each
MOTM-Keith Curran
The juniors are preparing to face Dulwich Harps on Saturday 23rd in Ruislip in the Toureen Junior championship semi final after finishing second in their group , despite going down to a strong TCG team in Round 2 there was enough there to suggest the boys can have a real sense of optimism of putting up a big show though being underdogs, the talent is there and if the performance against Tara in Round 1 can be repeated we could well get another day out in Ruislip again ,best of luck to Jason , his backroom team and the squad of boys on Saturday and we urge all supporters to get out and support .
The reserves are 1 out of 2 with a victory over Round Towers and a narrow loss to Fulham Irish to date , despite scoring 3-18 against Fulham we still managed to lose and a much tighter defensive performance in Round 2 saw us over the line on a score line of 1-12 to 1-07, this side has a chance if they can keep it together and will play Parnell's in Round 3 this weekend .
Saturday 23rd also sees our annual James o Brien day for the underage players to showcase their skills , the tournament honours the memory of James who played for the club and is fondly remembered by members still involved , the U11 team will play for the James o Brien cup and the U9 will compete for the Brendan Moyles cup in honour of our great clubman Brendan who passed away in 2021 , a great day will be had by all I'm sure , this will be followed on Saturday 30th with our underage presentation day with music, fun and games for all the family at Barnet Lane so September will be a busy one on all fronts .Our U12-14 and 16 girls have had blitzes last weekend and this weekend coming and these will most likely finish out the underage season then .
