- St Kiernans 0-13
- Fulham Irish 0-08
The dust is settling on a fantastic day at Ruislip yesterday which saw us claim back to back senior titles and our third county title in total , in truth the victory was made in a first half which saw us fly out of traps and have four points on the board before Fulham settled , it was a high energy performance capped with some fantastic team scores and gave us a platform to be able to see the game out in the second half despite a dogged Fulham fightback in very difficult conditions with heavy rain threatening to halt affairs at times .
We started the brightest with early scores from James Moran, Marcus Mangan , Willie Brazil and Tom Waters and with our backs turning over Fulham on several occasions we limited them to pot shots from outside , by the 15th minute we had a 0-6 to 0-1 lead with scores from Chris Farley and Kenny after a sweeping move involving Marcus and Eoin saw us turning Fulham over again and breaking at pace .Fulham got their second score of the game but we responded with further scores from Marcus with a monster free from the ground and he added another right at the half time whistle which gave us a commanding 8 point advantage at the short whistle with a Chris Farley score settled between .
On the re start Fulham came at us hard and a succession of frees (two very debated ones it has to be said ) saw them close the gap to 6 , Kevin kicked a sublime score in the sixth minute to settle us down again and open the gap back to seven but two further frees saw Fulham getting back to within 5 points by the mid way stage , again we were excellent in tight situations and worked a scoreable free for Kenny , the introduction of Mark Mulholland saw us picking up some badly needed breaks around the middle and the fresh legs of Joe Rock also gave us an outlet which was needed at that stage , Fulham were getting in some decent positions but again rarely had sight of the goal which they needed to really push us and another score from Kevin was our last score of the game , Chris Griffin and Sean Tuckers introduction saw two new ball winners on the field and we had a few chances to further our lead but perhaps hung on to the ball a second too long on occasions, Matt Tierney also made a late appearance to help shore up the defence and after four minutes of added time the referee Colm Lynott blew up for full time to huge cheers from the sizeable Kiernans crowd .the strength in depth in the panel all year was clear to see with players of the calibre of Brian Rutledge , Hugh Conlon, Matthew Joyce , Michael Shannon , James Gallagher and Sean Kirwan missing out along with injures to Shane Mcmanus, Senan o Grady and Sean Mcgoldrick , in truth this is the reason we were able to get over the line with the squad being so competitive .
Captain Eoin Walsh thanked all those who put so much in throughout the year to keep us at the top and he lifted the trophy along with Tom Waters to great cheer .We go on now to Represent London in the Connacht championship against St Marys of Leitrim in Ruislip on November 13th and we are hoping to still be in the hat for a trip to Sligo the week after .
